Cap'n Magee's Ship Log
Under a full moon, the silken sails of the White Rabbit, Cap'n Magee's clipper ship, cast blue shadows against orange harbor lights. At midnight, Captain Magee's ship slipped from Boston harbor to undertake the long journey 'round the world to trade with Chinese merchants along the winding Pearl River.
There, barrels and crates carefully packed with china tea sets were lowered into holds along with other treasure, secured for their long journey back to the West. After trading in the hongs, or factories, those in Captain Magee's employ would wait for the arrival of the monsoon winds and rains, and the White Rabbit would ride the southeasterly winds down to the South China Sea to carry this finery homeward.
This precious cargo was unloaded in Boston and shipped on to other American ports from Savannah to New Orleans to be sold in the finest shops.
Later, amid shouts of joy, American mothers with their girls would unpack their China sets. Carefully hand washing and drying each piece before placing them safely into cabinets, they were enjoyed daily and came, in time, to await the captivation of generations to come.
Thus the legend of Captain Magee and the White Rabbit Tea Room begins.
